Mercedes-Benz has officially launched the EQA electric SUV in India, priced at ₹ 66 lakh (ex-showroom). Following its debut a week ago, the EQA becomes the most affordable compact electric crossover from Mercedes in the country. It shares its platform with the GLA, launched earlier this year, and marks the fourth battery electric vehicle (BEV) from Mercedes-Benz in India, following the EQB, EQE, and EQS.

The automaker plans to introduce two more EVs by the end of 2024, namely the Maybach EQS EV and the electric G-Class (Gelandewagen). Bookings for the EQA are open, with deliveries expected to commence by late 2024 or early 2025.

The Mercedes-Benz EQA is equipped with a 70.5 kWh battery pack, offering a WLTP range of 560 km, with a real-world range estimated at around 450 km. Charging the battery from 0-100% with a standard 11 kW AC wallbox charger takes just over seven hours, while a 100 kW DC fast charger can achieve 10-80% charge in under 40 minutes. The EQA’s powertrain delivers 140 kW and 385 Nm of peak torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in approximately 8.6 seconds, and a top speed of 160 km/h.

Inside, the EQA mirrors the GLA with twin 10.25-inch screens and a star-patterned dashboard and door trims. The second-generation MBUX system includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, complemented by a 12-speaker Burmester audio system. Additional features include 64-colour ambient lighting, a customizable head-up display, and front seat massage functionality. Safety equipment comprises seven airbags, including a knee airbag for the driver, active brake assist, car-to-X communication, and run-flat tyres.

The EQA will compete with established rivals such as the BMW iX1, Volvo C40 Recharge, Kia EV6, and Hyundai Ioniq 5 in the Indian market.
